The Department of Romance Languages at Hunter College offers numerous opportunities for students to engage with the academic life of both the college and New York City. We host an annual Poetry Reading event, widely attended by faculty and students, where both students and faculty are invited to read poetry in French, Italian, and Spanish, either from their own work or from other authors. Additionally, our department organizes Foreign Language Film Festivals, which attract international figures from the film world. Thanks to the efforts of Professor Cecile Insdorf, these festivals have screened many foreign-language masterpieces and featured renowned speakers such as Pedro Almodóvar, Paul Auster, Ben Kingsley, and Martin Scorsese.

The department also fosters the study of Spanish language and cultures through the Academia Literaria, along with its student journal, the Revista de la Academia. Furthermore, every spring, we host a Prizes and Awards ceremony to celebrate and honor the achievements and efforts of our students throughout the year.

In addition to these events, students may attend conversation tables for French, Italian, and Spanish, attend guest lectures, and many other opportunities to actively participate and immerse themselves in the department's community.
