Summer Research Fellowships

SUMMER 2025 APPLICATION DEADLINE:
FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 2025 at 5:00 pm

Hunter College announces three distinct summer research fellowships. Each of these fellowships is designed to support outstanding undergraduates in a unique research or educational experience that is central to their academic career. The experience might be:

  • An independent study or capstone project while working with a faculty mentor.
  • Research in a lab while working with a faculty mentor.
  • Intensive language study.
  • A study abroad class essential to their academic pursuits.
  • An internship essential to their intellectual development.

The College hosts three fellowships:

  • Raab Fellowship
  • Tukman Fellowship
  • Summers Fellowship

The fellowships have some differences, but students are welcome to apply for all that they are eligible for.

  • The Summers Fellowship is specifically for students interested in Public Policy or Economics.
  • The Raab & Tukman fellowships are open to students in any academic field.
  • The Tukman Fellowship gives preference to underrepresented students with financial need.
  • Students must be returning to Hunter in Fall 2025 in order to apply for any of the fellowships.

Requirements To Apply

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 at Hunter
  • Applicants should have at least 60 credits finished by June, and must return to Hunter as active students in Fall 2025.
  • Application must be completed by the deadline of March 7, 2025, 5:00 pm. It must contain the items listed below and be submitted via this portal: Summer Fellowships Application
    • A 3-4 pp essay describing:
      1. Your own intellectual journey into college and as a college student.
      2. Your leadership experiences.
      3. A clear overview of the research project you would like to pursue this coming summer, and how it fits into your academic journey.
      4. Your goals and ambitions after Hunter.
    • Transcripts from all colleges attended.
    • A CV or resume.
    • A 2025 FAFSA on file.
    • A W-9 form.
  • In addition, a signed letter of recommendation or support from a your faculty mentor, either agreeing to work with you over the summer or describing the value of your summer goals, member must also be submitted to the Summer Fellowships Recommendation Portal by the deadline of March 7, 2025, 5:00 pm. Please share this link with your faculty recommender.
