AFROTC DET 560

Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 560 (AFROTC Det 560) serves over 14 colleges and universities in the NYC Metro Area to develop qualified students into future leaders by serving as commissioned officers in the United States Air Force or United States Space Force while still enjoying the benefits of a civilian college experience.

AFROTC DET 560

About the Program

AFROTC Det 560 is the only US Air Force and Space Force Detachment in the greater New York City area, hence our designation as NYC’s Gateway to Air and Space with a goal to train and educate students who desire to lead as officers in the Air and Space Forces upon graduating from college.

This journey affords students with dozens of internships, study abroad, foreign language, and flight training opportunities, and many other specialized programs that lead to professional and personal development.

AFROTC Det 560 is located at Manhattan College in the Bronx and offers both a three and a four-year commissioning program, each with its own unique advantages.

  • The shorter (three-year) program allows sophomore students, junior college transfer students, and other students with at least six academic semesters remaining, either in undergraduate or graduate status, and who have met required qualifications, to obtain an Air Force or Space Force commission while completing their studies.
  • The four-year program provides off-campus study during the freshman through senior years. Both programs provide the opportunity to compete for full academic scholarships.

Students will study their academic major at their home college or university from Monday through Thursday and attend ROTC courses in-person at Manhattan College on Friday between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Graduates enter the Air Force or Space Force as Second Lieutenants with a promising starting salary, full medical benefits, and countless opportunities to travel the world, all while serving their country.

Criteria

Students interested in joining the program should have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, 1000+ SAT (Math/Verbal only), be physically fit, and be within Air Force height/weight standards.

Additionally, to participate students need to attend in person at Manhattan College, once a week all day on Fridays.

How to Join

AFROTC DET 560 is located at Manhattan College in the Bronx.
