for readmission

Application Deadline

Semester/Session Application Priority Deadline
Fall (September–December) May 1
Winter (January) October 1
Spring (February–May) November 1
Summer (June–August) March 15

Hunter College will continue to accept and review completed Admission Applications after the priority deadline on a space-availability basis. A completed application includes your online Admission Application and all supporting documentation.

You will be notified of your admission decision via email. Decisions typically begin to go out 4 weeks after the priority deadline.

If your Hunter GPA fell below 2.0 you must submit your Readmission Application by the application deadline. Late applications will not be considered.

Eligibility

In general, students that left Hunter in good academic standing (2.0 GPA and above) will be approved for readmission. Students who do not meet this criteria will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please review additional requirements below for your specific situation.

If you previously attended Hunter as an undergraduate-degree student, you will be readmitted into your last declared major, provided you were in good academic standing (2.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher) at the time you were last enrolled at Hunter.

If your GPA fell below 2.0, your readmission will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If readmitted, will need to redeclare a major.

Note that if your Hunter GPA fell below 2.0 you may only apply for Fall and Spring readmission.

Additional Requirements for Students Who Were Enrolled in a Selective Program

If you were enrolled in a selective program, you will not be directly readmitted into your previous major. Upon your readmission to the School of Arts & Sciences, you must meet with a departmental advisor to seek approval to return to your previous major.

This applies to the following undergraduate programs:

  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Nutrition and Food Science
  • Public Health
  • Nursing
  • Education majors
  • Social Work

Additionally, if you were a part of any honors program, including Macaulay Honors and Freshman Honors programs, you will also need approval for re-entry into those programs.

Note that the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Health Careers Preparation is no longer available at Hunter College.

If you were previously enrolled in the SEEK program at Hunter College, you may apply for readmission into the program. However, you will need permission from the Director of SEEK program to reenroll in SEEK  if you meet one of the following conditions:

  • You previously attended the SEEK program at Hunter for less than four (4) consecutive semesters.
  • You previously attended the SEEK program for ten (10) semesters or more.

Additionally, you must obtain a release from the Director of the SEEK program if you do not wish to return to SEEK and you have earned less than 60 college credits.

Visit the SEEK Website for Details

You may apply for non-degree readmission if you have attempted less than 24 college credits. Once you have attempted 24 credits or more, you will no longer be permitted to enroll as a non-degree student at Hunter and must apply for Transfer Admission as a degree-seeking student.

You are exempt from the 24-credit limit if you possess a bachelor's, master's and/or doctoral degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university provided proof of your completed degree is submitted along with your Admission Application.

You will be denied non-degree readmission if you have already completed 12 credits, but have not demonstrated the basic level of competence in reading, writing and math required by CUNY.

Review the CUNY Proficiency Requirements

You are required to apply for readmission if you are a senior citizen auditor if you previously took courses and received grades at Hunter College and have not been in attendance at Hunter College for one or more consecutive semesters.
