Prepare to Attend a Workshop

Be ready to file before you attend! To get the most out of your FAFSA Filing Workshop experience, be sure to arrive prepared by completing the following steps prior to attending a workshop/event:

  1. Create your FSA ID.
  2. Have your parents or guardian create an FSA ID (if you're a dependent).
  3. Your parents’ SSNs (if dependent).
  4. Parents’ valid email address (if dependent).
  5. Gather financial information, including:
    • All 2022 tax returns, for yourself, your spouse (if married) and/or your parents (if dependent)
    • Records of child support received (if applicable)
    • Current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts
    • Net worth of investments, businesses, and farm (if applicable)

How to Create Your FSA ID Username and Password

Dependent Students

We highly recommend that your parents/guardians attend the workshop with you. Your parents/guardians are contributors. If your parents/guardians are unable to attend, you will only be able to complete the student portion of the application. You will be unable to submit your FAFSA until your contributors' consent has been completed.

Independent Students

If you are married and file your tax return jointly, you will need your spouse's consent to complete and submit your FAFSA.
