Australia Program

Summary

Location: Melbourne, Australia; Deakin University’s Burwood campus

Dates: January 5-25, 2025*
*Program activities will end before the start of Spring 2025 semester

Credits Offered: 3 Credits

  • After acceptance to the program, the Education Abroad office will provide instructions on determining course equivalency at Hunter.

Application Deadline: October 15, 2024

Program Fee: $2,065 (estimate) includes accommodation, airport transfer upon arrival, welcome dinner, surf day and excursions, and international health and travel insurance. AIRFARE is NOT included in the program fee. All students are responsible for arriving at their study abroad location by the first day of the program.

Payment Schedule: $350 application fee and deposit is due on or before October 15, 2024. The remaining program fee balance of $1,715 (estimate) is due on or before October 31, 2024. Payments must be made with certified check or money order. No cash, personal checks, or credit cards. Payments should be made at the Office of Education Abroad during office hours.

Students are responsible for meeting the payment deadline regardless of funding source, i.e. Macaulay Opportunities Fund, scholarships, loans, or any other type of financial aid. Late fees will be applied to all delayed payments.

Financial Aid: Please be sure to meet with the Financial Aid Office to discuss your particular financial aid package.

Scholarships: Students interested in applying for the Gilman scholarship should email Stephen Lassonde at ops@hunter.cuny.edu.

Program Description

The Australian Studies January program at Deakin University offers insight into this country’s history, geography, politics, culture, and its representation in media worldwide. The program will be delivered through an exciting mix of academic-led cultural field trips and deeply engaging classroom learning. Hunter College is delighted to partner with Deakin to provide students with this unique opportunity to learn about Australia firsthand!

Prerequisites
Applicants must fulfill the general eligibility requirements. In addition, students must have completed a minimum of one 100-level social science course (GEOG, ANTH, SOC, PSYCH, POLSC, HIST).

Credits and Grades
Students will only receive credits if their converted grade is "C" or above. Letter grades for this program will appear on the transcript, but will not count towards the Hunter GPA. If grades convert to below C (C- to F), they will appear on the transcript as F.
