Through ePermit, you can:
✔ Explore course options across CUNY colleges
✔ Earn credits that count toward your Hunter degree
✔ Take advantage of flexible learning opportunities to stay on track

Before applying, review eligibility requirements, deadlines, and policies to ensure a smooth experience.

If you have any questions, our team is here to help!

ePermit Application Deadlines

Once decided, exact dates will be posted before the start of every semester. Generally, ePermit application deadlines fall within the week before the semester begins. Please continue to monitor this webpage for updates.

Session II - Wed, July 9 at 11:59 pm

Fall 2025

About ePermit

CUNY ePermit:

  1. To seek approval from Hunter College to enroll in courses at other CUNY colleges.
  2. It is an electronic application within CUNYfirst. Students can log in to their CUNYfirst account to submit a request.
  3. Courses taken on an ePermit must fulfill the student’s current degree requirements for graduation from Hunter College.
  4. Students are reminded that, to meet the residency requirement for graduation, they must complete a minimum number of credits—including a specified number of major courses—at their Home institution. Please refer to the Hunter College catalog for the exact number of credits required to be taken in residence.
  5. Students are responsible for adhering to current policies, procedures, requirements, and restrictions at Hunter College.
Understanding the Difference Between Home and Host Colleges:

Home College: The institution where students are enrolled and pursuing their degree.

Host College: The institution where students temporarily take courses to transfer those credits back to their home college.

If you are interested in the 'Outgoing Non-CUNY Permit Application, please click here. Note that this request type is different from an ePermit.

An Overview of the ePermit Process

Hunter College applicants and their representatives (advisors, counselors, etc.) should review this webpage to ensure they submit valid and eligible ePermit application(s). Only valid and eligible requests will be reviewed.

  • Students must wait for both the home (Hunter) and host college(s) ePermit application portals to be open to submit a request.
  • There are no Guarantees: Submitting ePermits does not guarantee application approval and approval of application does not guarantee, save, or hold seats at any host colleges.
  • Approval of the ePermit application at the home (Hunter) school does not mean immediate enrollment of the approved course at the host school.
  • Successful submissions are processed in the order they are received for review and decision by the home college (Hunter). Some applications require a second-level committee review at Hunter.
  • If the home college (Hunter) grants permission, the ePermit application status will update to Approved. The host school(s) receives a notification of the approved application and will review to grant or deny registration access. Students must wait for the host school’s decision.
  • If registration access is granted by the host college(s), students should self-enroll in the approved course & approved host session via CUNYfirst using Schedule Builder. Use the following navigation to locate your enrollment date and time: CUNYfirst → Student Center → Course Planning and Enrollment → Enrollment Dates → Term & Host School → ‘Appointment Begins’
  • A Denied or Cancelled ePermit will not be considered further and cannot be reactivated. The host college does not receive notification for a denied or canceled ePermit application(s).
An ePermit application is only valid for the following approvals:
  • Host college
  • Host course
  • Host session, and if applicable
  • Home course/equivalent that is specifically listed in the ‘Approved’ application; not valid for anything else. Any unauthorized courses and credits will be for your record only. They will not be transferred to your Hunter record
