Adding Course Personnel

How To Add Personnel to Your Brightspace Course

To fully comply with the FERPA requirements, the Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost announced that the option to manually add users to LMS (Brightspace) courses has been removed effective March 1, 2023.

In order to access Brightspace course sites, Instructors, Co-Instructors, and Teaching Assistants must be listed officially on CUNYfirst, CUNY GLOBAL SEARCH.

The Instructor of Record or Department Chair should use the Add Personnel form to add Peer Observers, Co-Instructors, Teaching Assistants, College Assistants, Department Coordinators, Instructional Designers, or Librarians to Your Brightspace Course with the appropriate roles.

Brightspace for Students

  • Students can review the Hunter Brightspace Student Tutorial.
  • They can watch the video titled "Getting Started with Brightspace for Students."
  • Additionally, there is an online course called "Getting Started in Brightspace for Students" where students can practice uploading assignments and taking quizzes.

The instructor is responsible for making the class active for students. Once they do, you can see and access the course listed in Brightspace.

To communicate in Brightspace, all emails are associated with @login.cuny.edu and are generally linked to your @myhunter.cuny.edu account, depending on the preferred email you have set in CUNYfirst. Please make sure that your preferred email in CUNYfirst is set to your @myhunter address to receive communications from Brightspace.

To change your preferred email to your Hunter email, select 'Profile' in CUNYfirst Student Center, then select 'Contact Details'. From there, you may choose your Hunter email.

We also recommend checking your notification settings by following the steps below:

  1. Log into Brightspace and scroll down until you locate Notifications Review on the right-hand side of the screen.
  2. Once located select Update Your Notification Settings.
  3. On the pop-up page, select which notifications you would like to receive an email for.
  4. Once complete, select Save and your notification settings will be updated.

Unless you are staff or have multiple affiliations, your primary affiliation will take precedence, and Brightspace emails will go to that account.

It is up to your instructor when to make each course active on Brightspace to students. Please reach out to your instructor directly. For any further inquiries, please contact studenthelpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu.

Yes. Brightspace has a mobile app named Pulse, available in the Apple Store or Google Play.
