In the meantime, consider finding out more about student clubs including the Pre-Law Society, Moot Court Association, Mock Trial Society, and Model U.N. Team. Moot Court ClassMoot Court is a one-credit Intersession course that simulates the appellate court setting. Students become knowledgeable about existing legal controversies, prepare legal briefs, and present a case before a mock judicial panel. By learning to read cases and make oral arguments, students gain insight into court-based decision making, as well as the role of lawyers and judges within the process. Students frequently go on to join Hunter's nationally competitive moot court club. Admission to the program is competitive, and registration for the course is by permission only. |

Summer Internships: Firm Placements & Public Interest Funding (for matriculated students who will be in school the subsequent fall)A law-related internship can be a great way to explore the legal profession, develop contacts, learn new skills, and gain work experience. The entry point for our Summer Internship program is through our "resume drop" early in the spring term. Students participate in two workshops - one on resume writing and the other on interviewing. Students seeking either (i) a firm placement or (ii) funding for a public interest opportunity they have obtained all particiate through the same application process. Students seeking public interest funding are also automatically considered for the Julie Ross and Mark Ladner Award for Public Interest Law. |

LSAT Prep Diversity InitiativeHunter sponsors a special discounted LSAT Preparatory Diversity Initiative. This extended class begins with the Part I Introduction, 5 Sundays at the start of the spring term, followed by guided self study prior to Part II Intensive Summer component of the course which begins after Memorial Day. Active recruitment for the spring component begins in the late fall and requires an application for consideration. Priority for participation in the Part II Intensive Summer component is given to students who have successfully completed the Part I Introduction in the spring immediately before. |

Law School Application Merit Grants (for current applicants)Applying to law school can become expensive. Hunter is eager to assist talented, abitious students like you in reaching their goals: getting accepted to a desirable legal program with a financial package that works. Students must attend a workshop session on applying to law school and are expected to consult regularly with the Pre-Law Advising Office throughout the application process. Awards are made on the basis of merit and are distributed after law school seat commitment deadlines. Please note that a complete application requires a seat deposit receipt. Awards will be made after seat deposits go down. |

Panels, Discussions, Visits: Anticipating Law SchoolStudents benefit from a clear understanding of what it means to pursue a legal education. You want to know what skills and experiences will prepare you for law school success, while you are still an undergraduate plan your academic coursework, building your resume, and exploring your interests. Hunter regularly hosts visits to law schools, meetings with admissions officers, conversations with law students, and discussions with financial aid officers about how to pay for law school. |

Short-Term Professional Mentoring: Legal CareersStudents have frequent occasion for contact with Hunter alumni who are part of New York City’s rich and diverse legal community. Events have included panel and luncheon disucssions addressing career paths in different areas of legal practice including: finance; intellectual property; employment; immigration; personal injury; family; criminal law and others. Our annual "Law Day" party at the end of spring term, where we celebrate recent law school acceptances and students can mingle with a variety of attorneys, is one of our most popular events of the year. |

Events with the New York City Legal CommunitySpecial programming out and about in New York City is a great way to learn about legal issues and the dynamics of the local legal community. Recent events have included “The First Monday in October,” a mock Supreme Court argument held each year at NYU Law; a conversation with Samuel Alito, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court at the New York Historical Society; a trial re-enactment, "22 Lewd Chinese Women," by Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Asian American Bar Association of New York, focused a group of women from China who sailed to San Francisco without husbands or children in the 19th century. |

Distinguished Speaker Series/President's Conference Room Lunch with a LawyerHunter periodically sponsors lectures by notable members of the New York legal community to provide students with valuable insight into current legal issues of the day and complex historical moments. Our recent session featured a debate between noted alumni, Sheila Birnbaum, partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and Christopher Seeger, founding partner at Seeger Weiss, regarding NFL Concussion litigation. Recent guests of Lunch with a Lawyer include Hon. Nelson Roman, U.S. District Court - Southern District of New York; Martin Garbus, one of the country's top 1st Amendment trial lawyers; Jeffrey Friedlander, New York City First Assistant Corporation Counsel; and Sophia Muirhead, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of The Conference Board. |
