Grace Bayron with International SweetheartPuerto Rican women were not only present in early jazz, but they played trailblazing and innovative roles and contributed to the emergence of the genre in the States and abroad.  Serrano documents the success and achievement of several Puerto Rican women from the jazz age, as well as a brief discussion on current Puerto Rican women in jazz and surrounding issues affecting women in the arts today.
