Title: "Accounting for the changes in household composition" (Conesa, Li and Zhou)
Abstract: The composition of US households has experienced a drastic transformation since the 1960s, with declining marriage rates, rising divorce rates, and increasing positive assortative mating. We quantify the contribution of changes in labor market conditions, home production technology, and tax/transfer policies to this transformation. Preliminary findings suggest a limited role of changes in tax/transfer policies, with changes in labor market conditions and home technology playing a much larger role.
