CUNY Interdisciplinary Research Grant (CUNY IRG)

The 2024 Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IRG) is designed to contribute to CUNY’s goal of amplifying the quantity and quality of engaged public impact research and scholarship as outlined in “ CUNY Lifting New York.” As a public university, our mission is to serve our urban communities and create knowledge that addresses society’s most pressing needs. Across the globe, urban environments are confronting numerous challenges related to human health, environmental change, artificial intelligence, migration, and ever-changing social organization. Addressing these complex scientific and societal issues requires approaches that leverage expertise across disciplines.

The purpose of the Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IRG) program is to support faculty teams whose research outcomes will have a public impact. The IRG seed funds support projects that will increase the competitiveness of proposals seeking external funding.

The program will fund 6 to 8 awards of $45,000 each with a period of performance starting in January 2024. Please see the IRG Program Guidelines ( https://www.cuny.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/media-assets/IRG_Guidelines_2023-2024_14Sept2349.pdf ).

ELIGIBILITY

  • Full-time tenure-track or tenured CUNY faculty are eligible to apply. Faculty may only participate in one proposal as a PI or Co-PI.
  • Proposals must involve an interdisciplinary collaboration between two or more faculty members from different departments within the same college or from different CUNY colleges. Priority will be given to interdisciplinary teams that include members from different colleges.
  • As a seed-funding program, the IRG particularly encourages junior faculty to apply, though faculty at all levels are eligible.
  • Only original interdisciplinary research projects are eligible. Web or media development, workshops, trainings, or similar types of initiatives that do not pose a research question are ineligible.

NOT ELIGIBLE:

  • Lecturers, adjunct faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and full-time Higher Education Officers are not eligible.
  • Faculty awarded IRGs in the past 3 years are not eligible.

IRG Application Deadline: November 20, 2023(9:00 am EST) Apply Here ( https://ybephbsyus.formstack.com/forms/2023_irg_proposal_submission_form ) .
