Alumni: Here’s Your Chance to Welcome Incoming Students!

July 23, 2025

Hunter alumni, do you remember your first day on campus — the mix of nerves and excitement as you stepped into a new chapter, took part in orientation, and found your way to your first college class?

The Class of 2029 is about to begin its academic journey, and we would love your help in welcoming our newest students. Please consider sharing a brief message of encouragement or a bit of advice — or attending an Orientation Fun Room. Share your words of wisdom with the next generation of Hawks! Reflecting on your own college days lets students know they’re joining a community that is ready to support them from the start.

Here are two meaningful ways to welcome incoming Hunter students:

  1. Share a few words of encouragement, advice, or inspiration. Your message will be featured on digital screens across campus during Orientation Week — offering a warm and personal welcome from those who have walked the path before them.
We’d love to hear from you — your words could make all the difference for a new student starting their journey. Here are a few examples of what you can say if you need some inspiration:
  •  “College is a time to discover who you are. Be curious, be bold, and don’t be afraid to try something new — you never know where it might lead.”
  • “Some of the people you meet this week may become lifelong friends. Be open, be yourself, and enjoy the journey.”
  • “Get involved early! Some of my best memories came from clubs and events I almost skipped.”
  1. Volunteer at our orientation events. Share your Hunter experience, connect with new students, and help build a warm and welcoming community!

Volunteer Dates (Tuesdays & Thursdays):

August 5, 7, 12, 14, and 19

Time: 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

  • Orientation Information Sessions: Assist with tabling, greet students, and share your Hunter journey.
  • Orientation Fun Room: Engage with students through interactive activities and casual conversation.

Were you a transfer student? Join us as an alumni volunteer for a special Transfer Student Social Hour on Thursday, August 21 at 1:15 pm — an opportunity to connect with incoming transfer students, share your journey, and offer words of encouragement as they begin their’s.
