Dr. Lon Kaufman Named Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hunter College

Lon Kaufman

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lon Kaufman as our Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hunter College. Dr. Kaufman was chosen after a national search representing a remarkable candidate pool.

An accomplished biologist, Dr. Kaufman has served admirably as Hunter's Acting Provost since 2015. Prior to coming to Hunter, he was affiliated with the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) for nearly 30 years, serving in a variety of administrative positions including Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, Vice Provost for Planning and Programs, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs, Dean of the Honors College, and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences.

Dr. Kaufman's contributions as Acting Provost over the past three years have helped Hunter to flourish and to rise in national college rankings. His deep commitment to public urban education and his breadth of experiences as a senior administrator at both Hunter and UIC, coupled with his comprehensive knowledge of professional education, make him the perfect choice to oversee the range of responsibilities he will hold as Hunter's Provost.

I want to thank the search committee and its chair, Sandra Clarkson, for their dedication to this process.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kaufman and welcoming him to his new role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hunter College.

— Jennifer J. Raab
