Hunter alumna Dr. Patricia E. Bath, groundbreaking ophthalmologist, researcher, educator, and physician, has passed away at the age of 76.
Dr. Bath took special interest in combating preventable blindness in underserved populations and throughout her career, became the first black female doctor to receive a medical patent for a laser technique for treating cataracts.
She studied chemistry and physics at Hunter College, earning her degree in 1964.
