The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) today announced the appointment of Dr. Sherry Greenberg, a national leader in gerontological nursing, as the inaugural Evelyn Lauder Endowed Chair in Adult Gerontology. Dr. Greenberg will officially begin her new role on August 28th and will work with the Hunter team over the summer.

The Evelyn Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing offers advanced clinical training and graduate-level education focused on the critical aspects of care, from diagnosis to ordering and interpreting tests to prescribing medication.  Established in 2022 by a generous gift from Leonard A. Lauder in honor of his late wife, Evelyn Lauder, a proud Hunter College High School and Hunter College alumna, the gift expands Hunter’s graduate-level Program for Nurse Practitioners, preparing nurses for 21st-century practice and advancing health and health equity in New York City.

“Dr. Greenberg’s exceptional leadership and vision are vital as we advance our mission to advance health equity and promote well being in adults and older adults,” said Dr. Ann Marie P. Mauro, Joan Hansen Grabe Dean of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. “Dr. Greenberg’s extensive experience and remarkable talents will significantly enhance our efforts to address critical healthcare needs and promote successful aging in New York City communities and beyond. We are incredibly proud to have her join our outstanding Hunter team and groundbreaking Evelyn Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program. I am confident her contributions will make a lasting impact on our students and the communities they serve.”

Dr. Greenberg brings decades of advanced practice experience and expertise in interprofessional education to this new role. Currently professor and Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education in the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies at Monmouth University, she is nurse practitioner faculty and advisory group member on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative. She serves as the New Jersey Oral Health Education Champion through the 100 Million Mouths Campaign, an initiative aimed at integrating oral health into primary care curricula to address educational and access gaps. Her leadership roles include past president of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association and service on the editorial board of the leading journal, Gerontology & Geriatrics Education. She is also a peer reviewer for multiple prestigious journals, including Oxford Academics’s Innovation in Aging and Nursing Clinics of North America.

A national expert in gerontology, Dr. Greenberg is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Geriatrics Society, Gerontological Society of America, National Academies of Practice, and New York Academy of Medicine. She is recognized as a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing through the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

“I am deeply honored and excited to take on this new role in partnership with the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing,” said Dr. Sherry Greenberg. “I have been inspired by the Hunter community and its unwavering commitment to excellence in gerontological nursing. I eagerly look forward to advancing our shared mission to improve healthcare outcomes for adults and older adults.”

Dr. Greenberg earned her BSN, MSN, post master’s certificate and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, where she was a Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar and recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award.
