Hunter College has appointed an acting dean for its recently reconfigured School of Health Professions.
The college has tapped Professor Khursheed Navder, who for the past 10 years directed Hunter’s School of Urban Public Health, Interim Provost Manoj Pardasani announced.
“Dr. Navder brings a wealth of expertise and vision to the role of acting dean,” Pardasani said. “We are grateful to Dr. Navder for accepting this leadership post and are excited for the continued growth and strengthening of our health professions at Hunter.”
Navder received her PhD in Nutrition and Food Science from Kansas State University and joined Hunter in 1988 as an assistant professor. She guided the School of Urban Public Health through its last three accreditation cycles and through the creation of the Department of Nutrition and Public Health and its consolidation with School of Health Professions last spring. Health Professions earlier had contained only the departments of Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Navder, who has worked at Hunter for more than 35 years, brings a strong record of research, academic, and administrative experience. Her research interests have involved studying the effects of various food components on fat and alcohol metabolism, ethnic differences in fat-distribution patterns in children and newborns, and the effect of maternal diet and obesity on fetal growth and children’s health. Known for teaching as well as research and administration, she has built a strong research foundation for her students.
The appointment comes as CUNY is consolidating the health schools of several campuses at the new Science Park and Research Complex to be built at Hunter’s Brookdale Campus on East 25th Street. The School of Health Professions, situated at Brookdale, will occupy space in SPARC.
