Good news on Lexington Avenue!
Hunter College has installed handrails on the steps of the West Plaza entrance of the 68th Street Subway, using the recent pause in overnight 6 Train service to finish the installation. The new stainless-steel handrails have built-in LED lights that will provide more light and safety on the steps.
“It is a top CUNY priority to improve Hunter’s facilities for the benefit of the entire community,” said Interim Vice President for Administration Gustavo Ordóñez. “We aim to do that with the least disruption possible for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.”
Spurred by an influx of money from CUNY of more than $100 million in FY24, Hunter will embark on many facilities improvements in the coming months and years. Those include improvements to or replacement of the North, West, and East building elevators; wiring, ventilation, and air conditioning fixes; roofing, lighting, and boiler repairs; and upgrades of many lecture halls, the Kaye Playhouse, and the Assembly Hall in the North Building.
