In the latest college rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report, Hunter College ranked 17th in the Regional Universities-North category—a one-year jump of six places. The rise continues a trend, with Hunter climbing 25 places in just four years.

Hunter was also a standout in ranking subcategories. Among colleges in Regional Universities-North, Hunter placed 5th among Top Public Schools, 3rd in Social Mobility, and 7th as a Best College for Veterans. While not ranked in the same way, Hunter also registered the 5th highest score for Ethnic Diversity.

Hunter joined five of its fellow CUNY colleges—occupying six of the seven top spots—in dominating the list of colleges whose graduates carry the lowest student debt. The median federal loan graduate indebtedness for Hunter students was just $12,500. (Hunter is proud that 75% of its students graduate debt-free.)

“For 150 years, Hunter has provided opportunity to students from all walks of life and been a place where the American Dream comes true,” said Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab. “I’m proud that U.S. News & World Report rankings reflect Hunter’s continuing improvements, including the recruitment of highly regarded faculty members, new scholarships made possible by gifts from Hunter’s friends, and more academic supports for students to increase rates of success.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluates 1,452 US baccalaureate-granting institutions using 17 measures of academic quality.
