He rocked the room!
Hunter College Music Performance major Joseph Stroppel ’25 gave a rousing rendition of our national anthem at Borough President Mark Levine’s State of the Borough speech at the Kaye Playhouse March 3.
Stroppel’s operatic voice soared through as a packed hall, thrilling the assembled political luminaries, who burst into applause.
“I was deeply honored to be chosen for the anthem,” said Stroppel, who is hoping to go to graduate school for classical voice after finishing his degree. “It was exciting to sing for such a large and important crowd.”
Stroppel, who grew up on Long Island, ultimately wants to pursue a career in opera and classical music performance. But he’s ready for whatever the future holds.
“Whatever the style or the job may be,” he said, “I’d be incredibly happy to make a living through music.”
