The Hunter College School of Nursing has received the 2018 Nursing Champion Award from NYC Health + Hospitals, the country’s largest public health-care system. Gail McCain, the Joan Hansen Grabe Dean of the School of Nursing, accepted the award in a Bronx ceremony on October 30. The award recognizes Hunter’s strong support of nurses and the nursing profession, demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing nursing, and leading role in meeting those challenges.
Health + Hospitals’ 11 acute-care hospitals, five long-term care facilities, citywide network of community clinics, and numerous certified home-care providers offer essential services to more than a million New Yorkers every year. Many of the nurses caring for and treating these patients are graduates of Hunter’s School of Nursing.
“This award is a celebration of the School of Nursing’s mission, which, in large part, is to prepare nurses to provide care to globally diverse urban communities,” said Dean McCain. “In New York, those communities rely greatly on Health + Hospitals, so it’s especially gratifying to be honored by this vital institution.”
