Maximizing Access to Research Careers
The MARC program offers year-round research training for Hunter undergraduates from underrepresented communities who plan to pursue graduate programs in biomedical research fields. The program is open to undergraduate students majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Psychology, or Physics.
Program participants receive financial support for mentored research experience, professional development, and the preparation needed for entry to research graduate programs (PhD or a combined MD/PhD) in the biomedical sciences.
Opportunities and benefits include:
- Hands-on research and lab exposure throughout the academic year.
- Support systems - Hunter faculty, research mentors and MARC student alliances.
- Skill building in critical thinking, scientific writing and scientific presentation.
- Enrichment seminars - talks by guest speakers (scientists, MARC alumni, and graduate recruiters).
- Opportunities to attend a national conference - exposure to career scientists, networking opportunities, and resources for summer programs and graduate programs.
- A generous monthly stipend and tuition waiver (Fall/Spring) for participating in MARC activities. MARC scholars conduct lab research throughout the academic year (minimum 15-20 hours weekly).
