Brookdale Campus Rotunda

The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing convened faculty members, leadership, and special guests on August 25 for a full-day retreat at the Brookdale Campus Rotunda.

The event marked the start of the new academic year and the unveiling of the school’s 2025 – 2028 Strategic Plan.

The retreat opened with a warm welcome and “State of the School” address by Joan Hanson Grabe Dean Ann Marie Mauro, followed by a presentation of the new strategic goals by the Executive Leadership Team.

The plan outlines three core goals:

  • Innovative educational programs
  • Excellence in research and scholarship
  • Community engagement and collaboration

Throughout the day, faculty members participated in small group brainstorming sessions focused on key performance indicators aligned with each strategic goal. Group work was facilitated by senior leaders including Senior Associate Dean Maria LoGrippo, Associate Dean Melissa O’Connor, Evelyn Lauder Dean for Nurse Practitioner Programs Maya Clark-Cutaia, and others, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and actionable planning.

A number of student representatives from across various programs participated in the day and group work giving voice to their lived experiences.

A highlight of the retreat was a lunch conversation with Hunter College President Nancy Cantor and Provost Manoj Pardasani. The afternoon session included a faculty meeting and breakout committee discussions to align strategic priorities with curriculum, policy, accreditation, and budget planning. School Committee Chairs Sherry Greenberg, Steven L. Baumann, Lara Wahlberg, and Stephen Yermal facilitated their respective committee sessions.

Dean Mauro closed the retreat by outlining next steps and reaffirming the school’s commitment to shaping the future of nursing through collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Please visit the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing website for more information about the school and its strategic initiatives.
