We are delighted to congratulate Félix V. Matos Rodríguez on his appointment as Chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY). The Hunter College Community is deeply proud of Felo, who got his start at CUNY as our transformative director of El Centro, Hunter’s Center for Puerto Rican Studies.
An innovative administrator and a dynamic leader, Felo spent five years at Hunter, where his commitment to community engagement and superb scholarship helped make the CENTRO Journal the premier Puerto Rican Studies publication in the United States, while expanding Centro’s reach into El Barrio and beyond. As a tenured professor in the Department of Africana and Puerto Rican/Latino Studies, Felo was beloved by students, faculty and staff alike for both his intellect and compassion.
Felo’s vast experience within the CUNY system, coupled with his tireless dedication to access and opportunity, make him the perfect choice to lead the University at this crucial moment. We offer him our strongest congratulations and look forward to working with him as he takes the helm of the CUNY system.
