Playwrights Horizons is an influential nonprofit Off Broadway theatre company that centers the voices of playwrights. Established in 1971, Playwrights Horizons has a rich history of presenting new work by influential American playwrights. Playwrights has premiered seven Pulitzer Prize winners, including Michael R. Jackson’s musical, A Strange Loop, and 2014 winner The Flick, written by Annie Baker, who taught in Hunter College’s Playwriting MFA program from 2015 to 2019.
John J. Caswell Jr., who earned his MFA in Playwriting at Hunter College in 2020, premiered his Obie-winning play Wet Brain at Playwrights Horizons in 2023.
Playwrights Horizons offers a free student membership, which allows students to purchase $20 tickets to each show.
