Profile
Dr. Carol Oliver is proud of her educational endeavors and career paths which have led her to work closely with students of all ages in the area of diversity and inclusion. She is particularly proud of the work that she has done with the McNair Scholars Program because she has enjoyed being a part of the scholarly and professional development of students from undergraduates to completion of their doctorate degrees. Today many of those students are now her colleagues and they continue to also work in areas of diversity and inclusion.
As a low-income, first-generation Latina, Dr. Oliver has come full circle in serving CUNY students. She received all her terminal degrees from CUNY and feels a strong bond with the institution and the students she serves.
The McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is a federally funded program that provides resources for preparation to graduate school for low-income, first-generation students and underrepresented groups in graduate education.
Dr. Oliver directs and oversees the budget, staff and the delivery of all program functions, including scholarly activities and workshops; she recruits students and markets the program, and seeks out research and networking opportunities for students which will promote scholars and provide them with graduate school readiness. She also works closely with Hunter faculty to facilitate stronger faculty mentoring experiences for the students.
Dr. Oliver has worked with the federal TRIO community and participated in national and international educational networks that provide knowledge and training in the area of educational scholarship, diversity and inclusion. Her collaboration with deans and recruiters nationally have helped her build a large network of resources for her students and for scholars beyond the doctorate.
