Hetal Shah MS, CCC-SLP, TSHH-BE, is a full-time faculty, working as a Clinical Educator and Instructor with the Hunter College Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Hetal has been working with the department, since the Spring of 2008 where she has supervised graduate students in their clinical experience with diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders across the lifespan. At HCCCD, Hetal supervises the Speech-Ability group for persons with aphasia in the clinic as well as treatment sessions with pediatric and adult clients with a variety of communication challenges.
She has taught Advanced Clinical Practicum Seminar and Developmental Motor Speech Disorders at the graduate level as well as currently teaching Introduction to Language Science as a pre-requisite course. Hetal has also worked as a Clinical Supervisor and Diagnostic Instructor at the Edward D. Mysak Clinic for Communication Disorders at Teachers' College, Columbia University from 2019 to 2022. She has her bilingual extension certification in Hindi, is fluent in four languages, and has extensive clinical experience as a licensed speech-language pathologist for over 20 years. She specializes in working with children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with language, learning, and literacy disorders, speech sound disorders, apraxia of speech, Autism, cerebral palsy, and other developmental and intellectual disabilities. Hetal’s clinical experience also includes conducting dynamic assessments and targeting evidence-based therapy in aphasia, articulation and phonology, syntax and grammar, semantics and vocabulary, oral and written language, and narrative language skills.
In addition to her role as a clinical educator, Hetal has worked in collaborative multi-disciplinary settings ranging from pre-schools, public, private, and charter schools as well as private practice. During her time at the school settings, she has worked with graduate students and Clinical Fellows providing hands-on supervision and guidance for working collaboratively with professionals, and families and with documentation, staff, and parent training.
Hetal earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis her Master of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and her NYSED Bilingual Extension certificate to the NYSED Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) certificate from Teachers College at Columbia University.
