Profile

I’m Noran, Assistant Professor of French at Hunter College, CUNY.

Currently, I specialize in Maghrebi literatures from the 20th century to the present. Broadly, my research investigates the relationship between corporeality, writing, memory, and identity through what I calls “corporeal writing and memory.” My research interests led me to explore the works of prominent authors such as Tahar ben Jelloun, Ahlam Mosteghanemi, Hubert Haddad, Assia Djebar and Simone Schwartz-Bart. Through my research, I explore narrative techniques and the construction of memories and histories within Francophone literature.

In addition to my scholarly pursuits, I am deeply committed to fostering a vibrant academic community. I have organized and chaired panels at prestigious conferences, including the Northeast Modern Language Association and the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, where I’ve engaged with fellow scholars on topics ranging from corporeal technologies to decolonizing the university.

At Hunter College, I bring my expertise to the classroom, teaching courses that encompass French and francophone literature, language, and culture. From survey courses to specialized seminars, I strive to create dynamic learning environments where students can explore the richness of the Francophone world.
