Faculty Guide
Welcome to the Rockowitz Writing Center! We're here to support all Hunter students develop their critical reading and academic writing skills.
Our Tutors are Your Students' Peers
RWC tutors are Hunter undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of majors. They can help your students improve their skills and develop more effective processes for academic reading and writing.
We Work with Students in Multiple Modalities
- In-person on the 7th floor of the Cooperman library
- Over Video in a zoom-like environment
- Asynchronously where students can submit their papers electronically and get written feedback
Your students can also request a weekly appointment and meet with the same tutor throughout the whole semester, in person or over video.
Let Us Introduce the Writing Center to Your Students
At the beginning of each semester, you can arrange a classroom visit from the RWC by submitting a form for a Request a Classroom Visit. A representative of the RWC will come to your class, introduce and briefly describe the services we offer. A classroom visit takes only a few minutes, and we have found that a classroom visit is an effective means of encouraging students to utilize our services.
You can also normalize help-seeking behavior, particularly seeking out feedback on writing, by discussing your own writing habits with your students.
You Can Refer Your Students to Us
As a faculty member, you can refer a student to the RWC by completing an Early Alert. Be sure to tick the box for the Writing Center. We reach out to every student referred to us by faculty, and we prioritize them for weekly sessions.
