Who Are the Roosevelt Scholars?
Roosevelt Scholars are students with passion for civic engagement and public affairs. Roosevelts aspire to be a force for constructive change through direct service, social entrepreneurship, and leadership that fosters strong communities and sensible policy.
The Roosevelt experience integrates liberal arts study with students’ concern for direct impact. After the shared experience of the Roosevelt Freshmen Block students branch off into their own respective majors. Roosevelt Scholars may major in any field. Many opt for the social sciences; special academic opportunities at Hunter such as environmental studies, bioinformatics, and community organizing; and/or the certificates offered by Roosevelt House.
The group reflects various career goals, among them but not limited to: journalism, social work, law, public health, policy evaluation, philanthropy, electoral politics, activism, agency administration, and corporate social responsibility. Our shared goals are not anchored in ideology but in creating social value. Understanding markets, non-profit organizations, and public agencies all contribute to the Roosevelt world view.
Throughout their time at Hunter, Roosevelt Scholars have access to dedicated campus resources, skill-building opportunities and workshops, and the chance to interact with government officials, practitioners, researchers, and others engaged in policy discourse. Students also participate in the programming at Roosevelt House, which serves as an institutional "home."
