With over 20 years of experience in environmental health, Hunter College alumna Melisa Puglisi currently serves as Director of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety at Hunter College. She has a demonstrated history of working in higher education and has experience in waste management, environmental health management and compliance, laboratory and research safety, as well as occupational health and safety. At Hunter she oversees these areas as well as the office of Sustainability, taking a holistic approach to the safety and protection of our environment.
Prior to joining the faculty at Hunter College in 2020, Ms. Puglisi directed the daily operations of the Environmental Health and Safety Department at New York University for over nine years. She was regularly consulted on all environmental issues relating to general counsel, real estate, insurance, budgeting and construction projects both locally and globally. Ms. Puglisi directed the development and implementation of Fire and Life Safety Plans for all NYU dormitories at various global sites as well as the implementation of EHS policies and procedures for NYU's Global Network University. She also collaborated with the Human Resources Department to enhance safety for the NYU community by creating training modules such as Minors on Campus, Student Safety Orientation, Employee Safety Orientation and the Global Fire and Life Safety training for study aboard students residing in dormitories at NYU global campuses.
In 2009, Ms. Puglisi obtained a master's in public health from Hunter College.
