A conference honoring Professor Joan Stambaugh,
Department of Philosophy, Hunter College, CUNY
with support from the German Department
and the Office of the President, Hunter College

Wind und Wolken, Gabriel Münter, 1910
Adorno-Heidegger: Art, Ecology, Politics will reflect on the 20th-century contributions of Theodor
Adorno and Martin Heidegger from a 21st-century lens. With our present perspectives evolving to
include previously marginalized thinkers and themes, this conference will further the historical
reconstruction of 20th-century philosophy by examining the central roles Heidegger and Adorno
played within it, with particular attention to the two figures' clash over aesthetic, environmental and
political transformations. The conference will also celebrate the crucial role women play in the
Hunter College Philosophy Department, promoting gender balance in the discipline.
