ALEXANDER VILENKIN, another outstanding theoretical physicist, has been working in the field of cosmology for 25 years. He currently serves as a Professor of Physics and the Director of the Institute of Cosmology at Tufts University. He is best known for introducing the idea of the quantum creation of the universe from a quantum vacuum, and for his pivotal work in cosmic strings and eternal inflation. He is also the author of two books: Many Worlds in One: The Search for Other Universes and Cosmic Strings and Other Topological Defects.
