The Thrall of Technology Information
Technology has changed the fabric of society in ways which are nothing short of revolutionary. Hardly anyone on earth has been untouched. Compared to earlier eras of rapid technological innovation (such as the period 1880–1920, which saw the advent of electric light, automobiles, and skyscrapers), the physical aspects of our surroundings have not changed as much. Nonetheless, profound shifts have occurred in a virtual realm.
Join Professor Michael Thaddeus of Columbia University, and our visiting Phi Beta Kappa Scholar, to discuss the far-reaching effects digital media have had on our social and intellectual lives -- including sparking new kinds of addiction -- and speculate about where things are going.
Light refreshments will be served.
