Peer Mentors
Class of 2024

Aisha, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor. She is majoring in Human Biology with a minor in Political Science, is on the pre-health track, and hopes to attend medical school after graduation. She is a website manager and fundraising committee member at the Heart Health Awareness Club at Hunter College. She also tutors middle and high schoolers, both during her own time as well as with an organization called Pandemic Professors. Over the summer she will be doing student oncogenic research in the Melnick Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine. In her free time she loves doing makeup, painting, and watching true crime documentaries.

Avi, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor. He is from Hewlett, Long Island– a small town on the south shore. He is majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Spanish in the pre-health track. He hopes to work in sexual and fertility health but continues to keep his options open. Avi loves learning about different cultures and languages, and during his free time he loves to read, hang out with friends, and explore social media.

Aysha, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor. She is majoring in Psychology on the Behavioral Neuroscience track and minoring in Spanish and Human Rights. She is the Vice President of the Macaulay Peace Action Club, a Macaulay study group volunteer, and a marketing committee member for the Heart Health Awareness Club at Hunter. She has a passion for mental health and would like to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology with an emphasis on adolescent mental health. She loves meeting and learning from new people, enjoys going on nature walks, and debating controversial topics. She is also hoping to learn how to ride a bike!

Brianna, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor on the Pre-Law track, majoring in Sociology. Some of her favorite hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is dedicated to helping her community and loves to stay involved as best she can. Brianna’s main goal is to make sure her mentees have the best college experience possible, and is excited to assist them as they embark on their new journey

Chloe, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor. She is majoring in Biology and plans to do a concentration in Behavioral Neurobiology and Music minor. In her free time, she loves to play piano, bake and cook, and binge shows (her favorite shows so far are The Queen's Gambit and Attack on Titan). Chloe is excited to be a peer mentor, and looks forward to helping her mentees adjust to college life.

Fatimah, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor majoring in Biology on the pre-med track. Her hobbies include baking and painting, and searching for the perfect ice cream. She is also the co-community manager for the food blog Spoon Macaulay. Fatimah is excited to be a peer mentor and help her mentees with the transition from high school to college.

Laila, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor majoring in Media Studies, with a concentration in journalism, and a minor in public health. She is currently the Macaulay Hunter Scholars Council Freshman Representative and the Vice President for the Macaulay Peace Action Club. During COVID, she started volunteering for Meals on Wheels and as a student researcher for the Microbe Directory at the Mason Lab at Weill Cornell. In her free time, she loves to read, bike, listen to music, and make rugs.

Leah, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor majoring in Mathematics with a concentration in Quantitative Biology. They are passionate about sustainability, snail mail, and thrifting. They work as a tutor for middle and high school students in math and science and also do freelance video editing. When it's warm, you can probably find Leah playing softball with friends or lifeguarding. In their free time, they enjoy reading, surfing, and collecting records. Leah is very much looking forward to this coming year!

Nabiha, Class of 2024, is a first-time peer mentor. She is a Biology major and Japanese Studies minor on the pre-health track. She hopes to go to medical school and join Doctor Without Borders. Besides her love for science, she enjoys baking (a delicious stress-reliever) and engaging in anything artistic; she makes earrings, paints canvases, and plays with makeup. Nabiha is also a plant mom; she has 6 succulents and 1 philodendron and hopes to expand the family soon.

Sowjan, Class of 2024, is a first-year peer mentor majoring in Computer Science. She has a strong passion for the creative arts; when she is not at her computer coding, she enjoys reading (she’s in the Macaulay Book Club!), bullet journaling, spending time with her friends (virtually), and starting shows but never finishing them. Sowjan has lived in New York City for nearly her whole life, but hopes to travel and live in other countries as well.
Class of 2023

Abhi, Class of 2023, is a first-year peer mentor. He is pursuing a major in economics and computer science, and a minor in math. He is from Stony Brook on Long Island, but currently lives at the Brookdale dorms and is having a blast! When he is not doing homework, he really enjoys making music, hanging out with friends in Washington Square Park, and running by the East River.

Ally, Class of 2023, is a first-year peer mentor. She is majoring in Biology on the pre-health track with a minor in Public Policy. Some of her extracurricular activities include research at a Hunter cancer biology lab, Macaulay Scholars Council representative, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and HEAL Clinical Education Network. Ally also enjoys exercising and fostering animals in addition to her 3 dogs and 4 cats.

Casey, Class of 2023, is a first-year peer mentor. She is from Oceanside, Long Island, and is majoring in physics with a computer science minor. In her free-time she plays bass, gardens, and crochets. Casey loves living at Brookdale and taking walks along the East River, spending time in Washington Square Park, and shopping at Trader Joes.

Nick, Class of 2023, is a first-year peer mentor majoring in Public Health with a minor in Econ and a certificate in Public Policy. His goal is to work in a state/local health department or hospital system. Nick enjoys working out and going to new places, especially around the city. He also loves all kinds of music and hopes to go to some concerts in the near future. His main goal as a peer mentor is to maintain a sense of community and support, regardless or whether it is in-person or online.

Shafali, Class of 2023, is a first-year peer mentor. She is a Computer Science major and Economics and Math minor. She loves creating new projects and is a member of the Daedalus Honors Program at Hunter. In addition to computer science, Shafali enjoys knitting and baking.

Yasin, Class of 2023, is a first-time peer mentor. He was born and raised in Queens, to Moroccan and Italian parents. He is on the pre-health track, pursuing a Biology major along with Psychology and Public Health minors. Yasin loves to play video games, read, watch different shows, spend time with friends, ride his skateboard or bike, work out, and explore this great city.
Class of 2022

Andy Mina, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor. He is double majoring in Computer Science and Music as well as minoring in Math. His three passions are programming, music, and teaching and he hopes to blend all three in his career. Andy has taught computer science to students of all ages on a global scale. He enjoys writing his own music and composing new scores for short films and video games. Besides writing music, Andy enjoys skateboarding and actively works towards his goal of doing a handstand fingerflip. He also likes to code in his free time and has created numerous projects and clones of arcade games.

Arvind, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor. He is the Vice President of IT/Communications for the Macaulay Scholars Council, the President of the Macaulay Pre-Health Organization, and the Editorial Director for Spoon University at Macaulay. He also researches and coordinates a summer research program for high school students at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Department of Radiology. In his free time, he enjoys writing and Bhangra dancing.

Eric, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor majoring in Biochemistry along the pre-health track. He is currently working as a research assistant in a radiochemistry laboratory at Weill Cornell Medical College - Belfer in conjunction with Hunter College and MSK. He is also the Technology Team lead at the CMMB x Hunter club, where they strive to raise awareness of the medical insufficiencies for women and children in underrepresented countries. In his free time, Eric enjoys cooking, baking, swimming, and food-exploring New York City.

Maggie, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor majoring in History and minoring in Psychology and Legal Studies. She hopes to become a History teacher, and to possibly attend Law School. In her free time, Maggie loves playing instruments, painting, and rewatching shows/movies she’s already seen.

Marium, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor. She is a Biochemistry major with a minor in Psychology and Legal Studies. She is a writer and editor for the Bioethics Blog and gives health workshops to high school students as a part of Peer Health Exchange. She tutors younger students in Biology, Chemistry, and Math part-time. She also volunteers in her local hospital’s Emergency Department and conducts research in Dr. Kawamura’s lab. In her free time, she likes to go on walks and play with her dog.

Priya, Class of 2022, is a first-year peer mentor. She is majoring in Human Biology with a minor in Psychology. Priya is the founder and president of the CMMB x Hunter club, spreading awareness about the issues women and children face in impoverished communities across the globe. She was accepted to the FlexMed program and will be attending the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt Sinai after graduation. In her free time, Priya loves spending time with family and friends, playing volleyball, meditating, and watching Planet Earth and other nature documentaries.

Sabina Kubayeva, Class of 2022, is a third-year Peer Mentor majoring in Biology and minoring in Public Health on a pre-med track. She ultimately aspires to become a medical examiner. Sabina is currently a forensic pathology intern at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner and conducts research at the Goosens lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In her free time, she listens to James Arthur religiously and binge watches a bunch of tv shows.

Valentina, Class of 2022, is a third-year peer mentor following the pre-med track and double majoring in Biochemistry and Human Biology. She hopes to attend medical school after graduating. Valentina conducts research in Dr. Kawamura’s lab in the Chemistry department at Hunter College. She also volunteers at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the Pediatric department. She is the President of Hunter College’s chapter of Project Sunshine as well. In her free time, she loves to read, run, bike, and spend time with friends!
