Alumna Endows Latin American Art Scholarships

Estrellita Brodsky

She’s an art-world star, and she’s making more of them at Hunter.

Estrellita Brodsky MA ’94, one of America’s top art collectors, has made a generous commitment through The Daniel and Estrellita Brodsky Foundation to support scholarships for Hunter students studying Latin American art.

The new Estrellita Brodsky Scholarship Fund furthers Brodsky’s long-standing commitment to the study of Latin American art at Hunter and in America. Brodsky, who studied Impressionism at Hunter, says, "My experiences as a student and a supporter of Hunter's Latin American scholarship program have made me acutely aware of the importance of offering quality education at a public university. I am thrilled to see how Hunter's many talented students have expanded scholarship in the field of Latin American and Latin diasporic art history and can now continue to do so."

Dr. Brodsky is a curator, collector, philanthropist, and an advocate for artists and art from Latin America and its diaspora. Brodsky holds a doctorate in art history from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and a master’s from Hunter College. Her curatorial expertise spans exhibitions and extensive writings, particularly focusing on post-WWII Latin American artists. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and is a founding member of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Latin American Art Initiative and Tate Americas Foundation Latin American Art Committee. She has endowed curatorial positions in Latin American art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate, and The Museum of Modern Art. In 2015 she founded ANOTHER SPACE, a program and not-for-profit exhibition gallery dedicated to broadening international awareness and appreciation of art from Latin America and its diaspora.
