On 5/11/21, Hunter hosted this online public program as part of the Hunter@Home series.
President of David Diamond Associates, David Diamond, and Joachim Pissarro, Bershad Professor of Art History and director of the Hunter College Galleries, shared intimate clips from oral history footage and walked us through the extraordinary life of Hunter’s own, Hester Diamond’49. Hester, a fearless and visionary art collector and venerated interior designer, found her way to her passion of art though Hunter.
Diamond and Pissarro discussed Hester’s childhood in New York City and her fearless and independent spirit, which pushed Hester to assemble her art collection of both Modernist works and Old Master paintings and sculpture. While others were intimidated by change, Hester embraced it with conviction both in her art collection and in life.
“I got the foundation of a lifelong understanding of the fact that there is an underlying structure for every form of art.” – Hester Diamond
