Profile

Shengping Zheng received his BS from Nankai University, MS from Beijing University and the University of Chicago and a PhD from Columbia University. He did his postdoc at Columbia University and his research focuses on the design and development of new synthetic methodologies and their application to the total synthesis of structurally complex and biologically active natural products.

Educational Background

  • Nankai University (BS 1993)
  • Beijing University (MS 1996)
  • University of Chicago (MS 2000)
  • Columbia University (PhD 2005)
  • Columbia University (Postdoc. 2005-2008)

Courses

Courses taught have included:

  • CHEM 22200  Organic Chemistry I
  • CHEM 22400  Organic Chemistry II
  • CHEM 75100  Advanced Organic Chemistry II (Organic Synthesis)

Research

Research Focus

  • Organic Chemistry

Research Statement

Research in the Zheng group focuses on the design and development of new synthetic methodologies and their application to the synthesis of biologically active heterocycles. Targets in heterocyclic systems are selected in terms of novel molecular architecture and intriguing biological activity. In addition to the chemical synthesis of biological relevant target molecules, additional explorations into their mechanism of action will be made through interdisciplinary collaborations.
