Project Description
Named after Jody Goffried Arnhold, dance educator and advocate and chair of the college’s Dance Advisory Board, the 5th Floor center includes a new 2,400 square foot dance studio, faculty offices and seminar spaces, where students can study video recordings of dances and dance instruction. The state-of-the-art studio is built with sprung floors and custom acoustic wall panels, and large arched windows provide an abundance of light and views. In addition to ballet barres and mirrors, a custom laminated one-way mirror with a switchable liquid crystal film lines the wall, which gives dancers the ability to either conceal or reveal their activity to outside viewers. Adjacent to the new dance studio are offices for the program director and a flexible graduate seminar space for the group study. This project marks the first step of a plan for a full-scale renovation of three floors for the Dance and Dance Education programs in the Thomas Hunter building.
