This 85 credit dual master’s degree program focuses on the special needs / vulnerabilities of children from birth to 3 years old and their families. It prepares social workers for professional roles that combine both educational and clinical skills to work in the field of early intervention.
Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Science in Education (MSEd) Dual Degree
Students must obtain a total of 85 credits to complete the dual MSW degree and MSEd degree.
Silberman School of Social Work and the Bank Street College of Education in Infant and Family Development and Early Intervention
The program design incorporates theoretical and practice aspects of each degree into a cohesive program. Applicants apply to, and are accepted at, each institution separately. Degrees, both at the MSW and Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in Infant and Parent Development, are awarded simultaneously at the completion of the entire program. The program requirements satisfy the accreditation standards for each degree.
In the first two years of the program, students have an intensive experience at each institution, starting at Bank Street. In the third year, students move between both institutions to complete the course work. Both institutions require a supervised field placement. Students are responsible for the tuition at both Silberman and Bank Street.
You must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for admission. Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges
Statement of Purpose (Recommended 3-4 pages)
Two Letters of Recommendation (Professional or Academic)
Non-refundable $75 application fee. If you are currently a Hunter student and plan to apply to the program the following semester, your application fee may be waived.
