Our Latest Winners

Congratulations, Scholarship & Fellowship Winners

Over the past 6 years, Hunter’s students have won the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Luce, Goldwater and Schwarzman Scholarships, among many others. 2021-22 was a historic year: Hunter produced its second Rhodes Scholar in its history, was a “Fulbright Top Producer” for the 14th time in 16 years, had its first Soros winner in 8 years and had 3 Goldwater Scholars, the most ever by Hunter students in one year. Over all, Hunter students won 66 prestigious scholarships this year, which represented a 25% increase over the previous high of 51 scholarships in 2018.

Rhodes Scholarship

Hunter senior Devashish Basnet ’22 has been named a 2022 Rhodes Scholar. He is only the second student in the school’s history to receive a Rhodes, one of the world’s most selective and prestigious awards for international post-graduate study.

Soros Fellowship

Edward Friedman, Macaulay Honors Graduate from Hunter College and JD Student at Yale University, has been selected as one of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans.

Malik Atadzhanov

Goldwater Scholar

Malik Atadzhanov is majoring in Environmental Studies and Russian. Born and raised in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Malik moved to the United States at age sixteen without knowing any English.

Fulbright Scholar

Luisais Taveras is majoring in clinical psychology with a certificate in Human Rights, a minor in Women & Gender Studies, and a mini concentration in Japanese culture.

Cloè Mueller

Fulbright Scholar

Cloè Mueller was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to research the concentration of calcium carbonate in the Rhône River delta and its effect on alkalinity in the Mediterranean Sea, an indicator of global warming.

Salwa Najmi ('22) was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to research women’s experiences with maternal care in Morocco. She hopes to contribute to improving healthcare for educationally and economically disadvantaged women in the region.

Amgen Scholars Program (Harvard)

Macaulay Honors College sophomore, Swara Patel, has been chosen for the prestigious Amgen Harvard Program. She will undertake research with top faculty at Harvard University.
