About

MODERNIZING Campuses

The Office of Capital Projects and Planning at Hunter College is committed to upgrading facilities across all of its New York City campuses, overseeing critical renovations and opening new sites to enrich teaching, learning and student life.

ABOUT

Hunter College is committed to provide high quality facilities to our campus community. The Office of Capital Projects oversees all aspects of major construction projects at Hunter College.

In collaboration with other offices, such as Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, ICIT and Public Safety, we envision and implement projects in alignment with Hunter's strategic initiatives to support the academic mission.

OUR MISSION

The Office of Capital Projects and Planning at Hunter College is committed to supporting students, faculty, staff and visitors and maintaining the school's long tradition of expanding opportunity through rigorous educational experiences.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Hunter's Strategic Plan outlines important long-term initiatives to advance Hunter's legacy as a world-class public college.

Each capital project helps advance the college's strategic priorities, from supporting student success and investing in innovative research, to cultivating creativity in the arts and building strong connections with the New York City community.

Here are a few examples of capital projects, both past and present, and how they align with Hunter's overall mission and goals.

  • Engaging students - To give students more space for studying, socializing and relaxing, Hunter opened a new Student Union, is adding student lounges to every floor of the West building, and is installing new study rooms in the Cooperman Library.
  • Supporting research - With its focus on cutting-edge research, Hunter expanded laboratories for both the psychology and anthropology departments, upgraded the Radionuclide Lab and designed a new state-of-the-art early childhood lab.
  • Creating connections - To help build community both on campus and off, Hunter opened a Multi-Faith Center and Art Hub and is renovating the iconic West Plaza.
  • Promoting the arts - In solidifying its reputation as a leading public college for the arts, Hunter opened the new Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program, is revamping the Floria Dance Studio and is renovating the Appel Rehearsal Hall .
  • Upgrading infrastructure - To make all the Hunter College campuses safer and more energy efficient, Hunter is replacing hot water heaters, adding more HVAC and dehumidifiers and upgrading its emergency generator system.
