Maria Torchia LoGrippo, PhD, RN, NE-BC, ANEF is the inaugural Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a professor in the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter College of The City University of New York (CUNY). Prior to joining Hunter in August 2025, Dr. LoGrippo served as Kehler Family Assistant Dean of Curricular Affairs and Innovation and practice professor in the Department of Family and Community Health in the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.
A national thought leader and fellow of the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education, Dr. LoGrippo is an expert in promoting seamless academic progression models to increase access to higher education and support collaborative partnerships across nursing programs. Her teaching experiences include facilitating learning in both didactic and clinical courses in adult health, leadership, and community health. As principal investigator, Dr. LoGrippo has garnered over $1.3 million in Health Resources and Services Administration Nurse Faculty Loan Program funding and contributed to the success of approximately $6 million in extramural funding for scholarly work and research, primarily focused on nursing education and leadership.
At Penn, Dr. LoGrippo infused leadership training across the curriculum and expanded community health engagement and population health management experiences for students. She made major contributions toward the completion of the American Council on Midwifery Education Self-Evaluation Report, successful initial Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation of the DNP and Post Graduate APRN certificate programs, and school-wide CCNE accreditation in 2023. She is an American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials Champion and was instrumental in redesigning Penn Nursing curricula in alignment with the AACN Essentials.
Her program of research involves developing teaching strategies and evaluative methods for nursing educational programs. Through funded research, she facilitated embedding population health competencies into nursing curriculum and designed curriculum that integrates behavioral health into primary care. Dr LoGrippo’s doctoral work focused on perceptions of trust and stress among English and Spanish speaking pregnant women receiving care from certified nurse midwives. This community-based research helped to inform her future work to improve access and equity through nursing leadership and education. She is committed to delivering action-oriented approaches for advancing social justice throughout the curriculum and providing real solutions for addressing health equity and access.
Dr. LoGrippo has received numerous awards. She is the recipient of several Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) honors, including Campaign Outreach Advocate for a Culture of Health (COACH) training and support from the Campaign for Action (RWJF/AARP), the RWJF Breakthrough Nurse Leader Award, and is a past RWJF Faculty Preparedness Program New Jersey Nursing Initiative Scholar. At Penn, Dr. LoGrippo received the Joan Lynaugh Faculty Mentorship Award in the Department of Family and Community Health and the Dean’s Award for Commitment to Excellence. She also received the Heart of Rutgers School of Nursing Faculty Award in 2018 while at Rutgers School of Nursing.
Dr. LoGrippo earned her BSN from Georgetown University, her MSN in nursing administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and her PhD in nursing from Seton Hall University. She also completed a nurse internship in the Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health.
