Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNPs) offer direct primary care services to adults of all ages, from adolescents and young adults to older adults. Their focus is on preventative care, including health promotion, disease screening, and prevention strategies.
AGPCNPs employ evidence-based practice to:
- Identify areas where patients can improve their health.
- Offer guidance and counseling to help patients reach their health goals.
- Diagnose and treat both common and complex health problems.
- Develop and manage treatment plans.
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals when needed.
It is common for AGPCNPs to build long-term relationships with their patients and provide comprehensive care throughout their lifespan, from maintaining wellness to managing chronic conditions. While they often work in outpatient and community clinics, the scope of practice is not setting-specific and is more based on patient needs.
Graduates of the AGPCNP track are eligible for New York State NP certification and meet the educational requirements for national board certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board.
