The National League for Nursing’s Nursing Entrance Exam (NEX) is a standardized entrance exam for students seeking admission to a pre-licensure nursing program. The School of Nursing uses NEX scores, in conjunction with other admissions criteria, for admission into the Generic BS and Accelerated Second-Degree (A2D) BS programs.
The NEX is comprised of three computer-based tests administered in one session, each 60 minutes in length:
- Verbal: Reading comprehension and word knowledge (58 questions, 8 unscored)
- Mathematics: Basic computation and mathematical problem solving ability involving numbers and operations, measurement (conversions), algebra, and data and information (45 questions, 5 unscored)
- Science: General principles of high-school or early college level biology, human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and health (60 questions, 5 unscored)
The NLN offers study guides and practice exams (by content area or as a bundle) to help nursing school applicants prepare for the exam; see their website for details.
Other subject-based learning resources include Khan Academy, Crash Course, CliffsNotes, and Quizlet.
