Admission Procedures for Generic & A2D Programs
The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing uses NursingCAS, a centralized application service used by nursing programs throughout the United States. Applications for our Generic BS and Accelerated Second-Degree BS (A2D) programs are accepted from November 30 to February 1 for admission into the School of Nursing the following fall semester.
Applicants will apply online at www.nursingcas.org. Applicants are required to submit all official college transcripts (including an official transcript for Hunter College) directly to NursingCAS with their application. NursingCAS verifies the application components for accuracy, calculates the GPA, and distributes this material to your chosen nursing schools for consideration.
Please note that you can only apply to one nursing program offered at Hunter per application cycle: the Generic program or the Accelerated Second-Degree program.
The Generic program is open to Hunter College students who will be able to begin the nursing program as sophomore nursing students in the fall semester following the application period in which they apply. An alternate route of entry is available to first-year (freshmen) students who are accepted to the Hunter College Nursing Scholars program.
- You must be a matriculated student at Hunter College in the spring semester before entering the program the following fall.
- Apply to NursingCAS and arrange for all official college transcripts to be sent to NursingCAS directly from each institution you have attended, including your Hunter College official transcript. NursingCAS only accepts domestic transcripts from institutions in the United States. International transcripts from outside the United States may only be submitted to the CUNY/UAPC, P.O. Box 359023, Brooklyn, NY 11235-9023. NursingCAS charges a $50 application fee for your first processed application, and $35 for each subsequent application to other nursing schools. Please note that you will be unable to apply to the Accelerated Second-Degree program if you are applying to the Generic program. You can only apply to one program offered at the School of Nursing per application cycle.
- You must have completed ALL prerequisites (English Composition, Statistics, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology [LifeSpan], General Chemistry with lab, Organic Chemistry with lab, and an American History/Political Science course) by the end of the spring semester prior to your admission into the School of Nursing the following fall. You must receive a minimum of a ‘B’ grade in all science and math prerequisite courses and a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA to apply and be considered. If you are accepted provisionally while taking prerequisite courses in the spring preceding your fall admission and fail to make at least a ‘B’ grade in science and math prerequisite courses or a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA, your provisional acceptance to the program will be cancelled.
- The School of Nursing will not consider a repeated grade for any prerequisite science or math course.
- A career goal statement is required with your NursingCAS application, submitted under the ‘Personal Statement’ section.
- You may take the NLN Nursing Entrance Exam (NEX) at the Hunter College Testing Center or remotely with a live proctor. The deadline to take the exam is February 28th. Scores for the NEX, if taken outside of Hunter College, must be sent to Maria Luisa Mendoza, Pre-Nursing Advisor, maria.mendoza@hunter.cuny.edu directly from the NLN by March 1st. Only official test scores received directly from the NLN will be accepted.
- The deadline to apply in NursingCAS is February 1st for admission the following fall semester.
- All correspondence about your application will be sent to your Hunter email address.
- You must be a baccalaureate degree graduate from an accredited institution by June 1st to apply to the Accelerated Second-Degree program.
- You must apply to Hunter College as an undergraduate transfer student on www.cuny.edu/admissions/undergraduate by February 1st for admission the following fall. Admission to the nursing program is contingent upon your admission to Hunter College. Send one set of all official college transcripts to General Transfer Admission, CUNY/UAPC, P.O. Box 359023, Brooklyn, NY 11235-9023. You will be required to send a second set of official college transcripts directly to NursingCAS.
- Apply to NursingCAS and arrange for all official college transcripts to be sent to NursingCAS directly from each institution you have attended, including your Hunter College official transcript (if applicable). NursingCAS charges a $50 application fee for your first processed application, and $35 for each subsequent application to other nursing schools. Please note that you will be unable to apply to the Generic program if you are applying to the Accelerated Second-Degree program.
