Stephen Yermal, PhD, RN, CRNA is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist that joined the faculty as Clinical Professor and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Endowed Chair in Clinical Nursing in August 2022. Dr. Yermal has served as Associate Dean of the DNP Program and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs. Prior to joining the Hunter School of Nursing faculty, he was an Assistant Professor at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.
Dr. Yermal has extensive experience in graduate nurse anesthesia program and curriculum development. He was the founding Assistant Director of Georgetown University School of Nursing Graduate Nurse Anesthesia Program and founding Assistant Director, then Director at University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies Graduate Nurse Anesthesia Program. In addition, he served as the founding Director of the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing Graduate Nurse Anesthesia Program.
Dr. Yermal’s patient centric research focuses on understanding the impact of psychological distress and pain on immune and neuroendocrine system modulation in tumor surveillance mechanisms during the peri surgical period. Dr. Yermal’s educational research interest focuses on developing interprofessional academic practice partnerships to enhance advanced practice registered nursing education programs and curriculum.
