MFA Playwriting student Garrett Zuercher's play, Hard Places, won second place for thenation-wide Jean Kennedy Smith Playwriting Award from the Kennedy Center. This award is offered for the outstanding student-written script that explores the human experience of living with a disability. Read more about the prestigious award. Garrett is one of the founders of Deaf Broadway, a collective of professional Deaf actors who make filmed theatre productions visually accessible in American Sign Language. He is dedicated to bringing authentic Deaf voices to the mainstream and advocates for awareness and representation within the theatre industry. He recently joined us for a Hunter@Home event with friend and Hunter alum, Lauren Ridloff '05, and actor, producer and activist, Nyle DiMarco.
Lauren Ridloff MSEd ’05 made Good Morning America’s Inspiration List. The American actress, who is deaf, was nominated for a Tony Award as best actress for her role in the broadway play Children of a Lesser God and will star in the Marvel superhero film Eternals. Lauren recently joined us for the Hunter@Home program "Opening Doors of Opportunity: Bridging the Gap Between The Deaf and The Hearing" along with actor, producer and activist Nyle DiMarco and current MFA Playwriting student Garrett Zuercher.
Heidi Zuckerman MFA '97 has been named director and CEO of the Orange Country Museum of Art in Santa Ana, California. Her new post follows 14 years as director and CEO of the Aspen Art Museum, Colorado.
Meisha Porter ’01 has been named chancellor of New York City schools and will become the first Black woman to lead the nation's largest public school system. She officially started on March 15.
Hunter College Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging’s director of strategic policy initiatives, Christian González-Rivera, has been selected as a member of the steering committee of the New York City Inclusive Growth Initiative.
Sociology professor Margaret Chin's book Stuck: Why Asian Americans Don't Reach the Top of the Corporate Ladder won the 2021 PROSE Award in the Business, Finance and Management category. Margaret will be joining us for a Hunter@Home program in May to discuss Stuck, you won't want to miss it!
