  • DPD Verification Statement from an ACEND-approved program prior to the start of the DI
  • For visa holders, US work authorization for the duration of the DI
  • Completion of all application requirements (see below)
  • NOTE: GRE is not required
  1. The Hunter College Internship Program uses the online centralized internship application, DICAS. Email questions about the DICAS to: DICASinfo@DICAS.org.
  2. The online DICAS application for the Hunter College Dietetic Internship must be completed by 11:59 PM Central Time on February 15, 2025
  3. The fee to use DICAS is $50.00 for the first application submitted and $25.00 for each additional application.
  4. Two references are required. When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an email address) for each reference. This will trigger an email message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed online.
  5. Applicants who apply to internships using DICAS will be asked to complete and upload a personal statement. Questions to be addressed in the personal statement for the Hunter College Dietetic Internship Program are:
    • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
    • Discuss experiences that have helped you to prepare for your career.
    • What are your short-term and long-term goals? How do you feel the Hunter College Dietetic Internship will help you reach these goals?
    • What are your personal and professional strengths? How do you feel these will contribute to your success as a dietetic intern?
    • **The personal statement is to be limited to 500 words.
  6.  Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended should be sent through DICAS.
  7. Separate submission of a $75 application fee (check or money order which includes your first and last name) - payable to: Nutrition & Food Science, Hunter College, postmarked by February 15, 2025, to the following address:

      New York, NY 10035
  8. Only after notification of DI acceptance, interns are required to apply to Hunter with graduate degree-seeking matriculation status through Hunter’s Office of Graduate Admissions.

A selection committee evaluates each applicant's promise as a dietetic practitioner. No one will be denied entrance into the DI program based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, genetic predisposition or carrier status, citizenship, age, military or veteran status, or status as victim of domestic violence. Factors that will determine the ranking of students who meet the criteria for selection into the Dietetic Internship Program include:

  • Quality of the personal statement
  • GPA - general and DPD Courses*
  • Recommendations
  • Employment
  • Honors, awards, activities
  • Availability of positions

*Note: Most successful applicants will have a GPA above 3.0. However, exceptional work experience and leadership ability may compensate for a lower GPA. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 are not likely to achieve high scores in the selection process.

Completed applications submitted by the application deadline, and demonstrated compliance with all application requirements, will be reviewed by the internship selection committee. Applicants who meet admissions requirements will be notified by the Program Director on or before March 1, 2025. Candidates must notify the Program Director of their acceptance decision no later than March 15, 205.

Matched interns must contact the Dietetic Internship Program Director to accept their placements by the deadline on Appointment Day. Failure to do so may result in the loss of placement.
