Undergraduate

Students and Faculty at the Big Apple Crunch

The Nutrition Program at Hunter College offers undergraduate students two main academic tracks: a BS in Nutrition and Food Science and a BS in Nutrition and Wellness.

BS in Nutrition and Food Science (NFS-BS)

The 52-credit Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) major is a comprehensive study of the fundamentals of food, food service, food preparation and management, epidemiology, research methods, and community nutrition education. The major is designed for students inclined toward the physical and biological sciences, and are concerned about the health and nutritional well-being of people and communities. The academically rigorous curriculum also prepares students interested in further study, particularly in nutrition, allied health, scientific or social research, or social work.

BS in Nutrition and Wellness (NW-BS)

The Nutrition and Wellness (NW) major provides a wellness focus through nutrition courses without the emphasis on science requirements. The 40 credit major, including prerequisites & allied courses, is a diverse and comprehensive program that prepares students to apply nutrition knowledge towards the improvement of health of populations locally and around the world in non-clinical settings such as farmer's markets, after school programs, and other community sites. The curriculum gives students the opportunity to take a variety of courses such as nutrition through the life cycle, cultural foods, community nutrition, and research methods to name but a few, and acquire knowledge and skills in developing nutrition education to promote health and well-being for diverse communities and populations, in addition to individuals.
